Since NIL’s legalization, many Clemson football fans – and fans across the country – have wondered about the potential for a revival of the NCAA Football video game franchise that sparked so much joy for us ago. has years.
The franchise was discontinued after the release of NCAA Football 14, but there is now hope that athletes can now benefit from their name, image and likeness to bring the game to life.
Earlier this month, EA Sports released a statement on the future of the game:
“We are following recent developments regarding the name, image and likeness of student athletes very closely. “It is still in its early stages and we plan to explore the possibility of including players in EA SPORTS College Football. For now, our development team is focused on working with our partners at CLC to ensure the game authentically presents the great sport of college football and the more than 100 institutions registered to feature in our game. ”
Clemson football fans will have to wait a little longer for NCAA football’s return
Despite hopes that the NIL legislation would mean an immediate return to NCAA football, a leaked document obtained by Matt Brown of Extra Point said EA Sports plans to release the game’s latest installment in July 2023 with a four-year license in place.
Unfortunately, if that remains the case, Clemson football fans will likely never play the part of DJ Uiagalelei in a Tiger uniform. This means that we will still have to wait two more years for the game to be developed and released.
It’s understandable that a game’s release takes time, but many were hoping EA Sports would launch and start growing with a potential release in mind next summer. This does not seem to be the case.
EA Sports is going to “slow down” this in a way and let the NIL situations – and the issues surrounding the subject – play out before spending millions of dollars on development.
NCAA football is back and it will be there at some point in the future, but we may have to wait a little longer than we would like.
