Dark Souls PVP servers will remain offline until Elden Ring launches

The Dark Souls: Remastered, 2, and 3 PVP servers have been taken offline due to an exploit that potentially allows outside users to access player PCs.

Currently, Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3 are missing a fairly key element in their overall gameplay. Players are unable to access multiplayer servers due to the discovery and sharing of a dangerous exploit that could potentially allow outside users to gain access to a player’s computer via an apparent kernel-level bug. Now, it looks like FromSoftware has extended its investigation into the matter to Elden Ring multiplayer and this new prioritization means that all PVP in the FromSoftware pantheon will remain closed at least until Elden Ring launches.

FromSoftware informed players about the current PVP server situation via a statement on the official website Dark Souls Twitter, released on February 9, 2022. According to the statement, FromSoftware is still investigating the issue, but since a similar multiplayer system exists in Elden Ring, it has extended the investigation to this game. As Elden Ring is the next major launch from FromSoftware, that means ensuring its security and stability in online gaming will put other games on the back burner. FromSoftware has confirmed that the Dark Souls PVP servers will remain offline at least until the launch date of Elden Ring.

It was in late January that gamers discovered the Remote Code Execution (RCE) exploit in Dark Souls games and brought it to the attention of FromSoftware, causing these to be shut down and investigated. problems.

“Due to the time required to set up appropriate test environments, online service for the Dark Souls series on PC will not resume until after the release of Elden Ring,” the FromSoftware statement read. “We will continue to do everything we can to restore these services as soon as possible.”

It should come as no surprise that in all of this, FromSoftware prioritizes Elden Ring. The upcoming collaboration between director Hidetaka Miyazaki and George RR Martin is highly anticipated and will be one of FromSoftware’s most ambitious releases. It’s a shame for Dark Souls fans who just want to engage in player versus player gameplay or need a hand to slay a boss or two, but hopefully the impending release date of Elden Ring on the 2022 gaming schedule means players won’t wait. long for a solution.
