Kirby and the Forgotten Land brings the pink puffball to a mysterious abandoned town to rescue Waddle Dees with powerful new abilities. But can you take on this new 3D platformer with friends?
In the first reveal trailer, Kirby fans learned that you can take a second player with you on the ride through Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which means friends can join you on your quest to take down the pack. Beast, expand Waddle Dee Town and discover more about the strange new planet.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land has cooperative play
Kirby can do a lot of amazing things on his own in Forgotten Land, including driving around the maps in a car or light bulb, improving copy abilities, and fishing. But if that’s not enough, Kirby can be joined by a Bandana Waddle Dee controlled by a second player.
A trailer gave fans a closer look at this co-op gameplay showing Bandana Waddle Dee hurling his spears at enemies from afar. This makes him an excellent long-range fighter who can avoid the dangers of close combat. It’s a great balance with Kirby’s more direct fighting style, which often sees him running up to enemies to blast them with fire or damage them with spikes.
Another important thing to note in the trailer is that the second player can be seen fishing alongside Kirby in Waddle Dee Town. Kirby and Bandana Waddle Dee both throw a fishing rod in the water and sit down like two old friends catching up on a lazy day. It’s still unclear whether fishing is a casual hobby, a mini-game, or something more.
Does Kirby and the Forgotten Land have online multiplayer?
Kirby and the Forgotten Land will not have an online multiplayer option. To our knowledge, there are no couch co-op play options outside of the campaign. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is not a board game and is best suited for one or two players looking to adventure together.
While fans will surely be disappointed with the lack of online co-op, it’s no big surprise. Developer Nintendo has generally fallen behind the rest with its online multiplayer options, and that continues to be the case with Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
