New World server transfer details released and players are not happy

Players may want to rethink moving their characters to another server.

New world, Amazon Games’ new massively multiplayer online RPG, launched to large numbers on September 28. So huge that the company had to create dozens of servers to accommodate the more than 900,000 players who tried to play the game. Instead of waiting in long queues to join a particular server, players went to any server hoping to be able to transfer their characters later, but this does not appear to be the case.

A thread on the New World forums went on Friday detailing how server transfers would work. One particular point that has caused a backlash from players is the limitation on character transfers to certain regions. This means that players who joined an American server but really wanted to be on a European Union server will not be able to move their characters. The same goes for American West Coast players who want to join an East Coast server, and vice versa.

The players are upset because Amazon Games tweeted on launch day, they would be able to transfer characters to different regions.

“Yes, you can move between regions if you want to,” the Amazon Games Twitter account told a Twitter user on September 28.

Amazon Games now states that “the original information provided was incorrect.”

Players have expressed their anger at the issue on social media. Several Reddit son focused on this change, with some people claiming they were planning to quit the game because of it.

“Well, 100 hours spent on my character! I’m an EU player who went to the eastern US because the EU servers were all full and now this! I lost a player…. Really sad “, a poster noted.

Amazon Games did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
