Nintendo promises fix for game-breaking bug in new Nintendo Switch online title

Nintendo has released a new statement promising fans that it will soon be releasing a patch for a recently released game on Nintendo Switch Online. Specifically, this title in question happens to be Kirby Chapter 64: Crystal Shards. Just over a week ago, classic Nintendo 64 title Kirby finally joined the largest catalog of games available on Switch Online. And while it was an exciting release for a number of subscribers, that excitement was dampened due to a pretty notable bug. Fortunately, a solution to this problem should arrive very soon.

As shared on Twitter recently, Nintendo announced that they are very aware of the bug present in the Switch Online iteration of Kirby Chapter 64: Crystal Shards which prevents players from progressing in the game. Luckily, the Japanese publisher said that they are already working on an update for the game which will arrive in the next few days. “A patch will be released early next week to address this issue,” Nintendo said in its statement. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”

To shed some light on this situation, the bug inside Kirby 64 which was causing problems was with the underwater sections of the title. Essentially, if players were damaged by specific items, they would be permanently stunned. Being in this state would prevent players from being able to progress further in the level.

While it’s good to see that Nintendo is quickly releasing an update to fix this strange bug, this is yet another case where the Switch Online version of a certain game caused issues. Since Nintendo 64 games started being added to Switch Online last year, titles like paper mario and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time were released with errors that Nintendo had to correct later. In short, N64 games continue to be added in less than ideal states. Hopefully this will not be the case in the future.
