SGDQ 2021 is full of speedruns you might want to watch

Games Done Quick’s week-long summer speedrunning event for charity starts Sunday and looks like it has a whole bunch of great races to look forward to. Things are kicking off for Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) online 2021 at 12 p.m. ET on the Twitch Games Done Quick channel.

You can see the full schedule here, and it’s packed with a treasure trove of interesting leads. There are a lot of things I want to check out, but I think I’m more interested in the blindfolded 70 stars Super Mario 64 the Saturday.

SGDQ and its winter counterpart, Awesome Games Done Quick, are two of my favorite weeks of the year. I love watching gamers take down absolutely some of my favorite games, like in this series of Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, or perform superhuman stunts, like beating the most difficult levels of the already difficult platform game Celestial using a dance mat.

But since the marathon takes place every hour of each day until it’s over, I also like to watch the stream at random times of the day and just watch what happens. A lot of times I discover a game that I’ve never heard of before, and it’s fun to learn all about it from people who have mastered the game.

As the name of the event suggests, SGDQ Online 2021 will take place entirely online (which was also the case last year). Donations will benefit Médecins Sans Frontières, and in 2020, the SGDQ raised more than $ 2.3 million for the association.
