Southern Alabama @ State of Texas
Current records: Southern Alabama 3-1; Texas State 1-3
What there is to know
The Texas State Bobcats and South Alabama Jaguars have been tied against each other since October 2015 (2-2), but not for long. The Bobcats off week ends as they meet South Alabama at 7 p.m. ET at Jim Wacker Field in Bobcat Stadium on Saturday. Since both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a bit of extra motivation ahead of this competition.
A win for Texas State just wasn’t in the stars two weeks ago, as the team never even took a temporary lead. They took a serious hit against the East Michigan Eagles, losing 59-21. A silver lining for Texas State was the game of WR Javen Banks, who pulled off two touchdowns received.
Meanwhile, Southern Alabama was close but no cigars last week as they lost 20-18 to the Louisiana Ragin ‘Cajuns.
The State of Texas is expected to lose this next by 3.5. This might not be the best time to face the Bobcats as they have let punters down in the last two games in a row.
The losses put Texas State at 1-3 and the Jaguars at 3-1 reciprocal. A pair of numbers to keep in mind before kick-off: Texas state is entering the game with the 221st most touchdowns allowed in the country, after allowing ten during the season. Southern Alabama has had its own struggles as it is the nation’s 183rd worst in touchdown passes, with just two on the season. It’s possible that one of those Achilles heels will end up tripping the losing team.
