ten Family Business — Slippy Toad (Star Fox series)

This amphibious mechanic is a key part of the Star Fox team and an invaluable asset when it comes to creating new inventions. The most notable of these is the Arwing aircraft that he and his father made as part of Space Dynamics Co. Ltd.

As a comic relief character, Slippy is surprisingly knowledgeable on the subject of mechanics. He is able to make inventions using the most limited resources, such as when he made the Blue-Marine out of only scrap metal. Slippy is also able to perform repairs on Star Fox team vehicles after tough battles.

9 Passion Never Dies – Cid Pollendina (Final Fantasy 4)

Final Fantasy 4 is the first game in the series where you can play as the recurring character Cid, with Cid Pollendina a playable party member. Many of Cid’s characters in Final Fantasy take on the role of mechanic, and Cid Pollendina is no exception.

Continuing the series’ legacy of characters and Cid’s flight, this loud mechanic has a fascination with airships. He builds the Enterprise, the first airship you use in the game. Even in Final Fantasy 4: The After Years, set almost 20 years after the original game, Cid retains his passion for the mechanics, though he is over 70 years old.

8 Robot Ring Leader – Tron Bonne (Mega Man Legends series)

One of the antagonists of the Mega Man series, Tron Bonne is a talented mechanic who has created many inventions – despite being only 14 years old – to aid the Bonne family in their villainous schemes. She is the inventor of machines such as the Gesellschaft airship and the Servbots, a group of lovable robots loyal to her and the Bonne family.

In his own game, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, you use Tron’s inventions to aid you in his mission, alongside his horde of Servbots – who are always at his side.

seven Hi! — Ellie (Borderlands 2 and 3)

When you first meet Ellie in Borderlands 2, she’s busy murdering someone for disrespecting her. The game tells you that Ellie loves hugs and kills, which is quite the introduction. Along with these hobbies, Ellie also enjoys making and fixing things.

Ellie has a garage located in The Dust and she will help you create a vehicle, gather the necessary parts and make it a reality. This mechanic is a sweet and helpful NPC – don’t get on the wrong side or you’ll end up in the car crusher.


6 Rebel Series – Robin (Iconoclasts)

Robin is the main character of the Iconoclasts platform game. The people of iconoclasts live under the dictatorship of One Concern, which assigns people roles to perform and punishes them if they deviate from them. Although he has no government-assigned profession, Robin practices mechanics despite the risk.

After his late father, Polro, who was a licensed mechanic, Robin is adept at handling machinery. In the game, she can use her key to perform different actions, such as hanging from nuts and controlling machinery.

5 The Royals’ Personal Mechanic – Cindy Aurum (Final Fantasy 15)

Cindy Aurum is a dynamic mechanic located at Hammerhead Garage. You’ll want to visit this location in Final Fantasy 15 to get your car, the Regalia, serviced, customized, and upgraded. As the head mechanic, she is passionate about her job and strives to improve the company, focusing on her job rather than her many admirers.

Cindy was raised by her grandfather, Cid Sophiar, who passed on his knowledge of mechanics to her and helped her succeed in the family business. She carries on the long tradition of Final Fantasy engineers and mechanics named Cid, as her Japanese name is “Cidney”.


4 Wrench in the Works – Andy (Advance Wars)

Andy is one of the main characters in the Advance Wars games, a series of tactical RPGs where you fight against an opposing army. He definitely looks the part, dressed in a classic mechanic’s jumpsuit, and is often depicted holding a large wrench.

Many of Andy’s abilities revolve around his mechanical skills, such as Hyper Repair, which heals his units and boosts their defense. He’s also been known to mention his profession in his dialogue, saying things like “I’ve got coins to spare!” He’s a useful mechanic that you’ll be happy to have on your side.


One half of the iconic Ratchet and Clank duo, Ratchet is an expert mechanic who uses the OmniWrench to protect the planet from the forces of evil. Using his abilities, Ratchet crafted his own ship, which led to him meeting Clank, who was impressed with his skills as a mechanic.

Central to his character is Ratchet’s identity as a Mechanic, as many of his in-game attacks focus on his ability to wield various gear. Ratchet is also a keen inventor, creating devices such as a nuclear-powered rocket sled and Stunderwear, a pair of electro-shock underwear, using the limited resources he has.


2 Clever and adorable – Tails (Sonic the Hedgehog series)

Tails is one of Sonic’s closest companions in the Sonic the Hedgehog series and a skilled mechanic, despite his initial lack of confidence. Tails’ inventions have saved Sonic and his friends countless times, and he’s proven his skills and wits time and time again. This includes when he created the fake Chaos Emerald in Sonic Adventure 2.

Lucca is Crono’s childhood friend and one of the band members in Chrono Trigger, known for her mechanical abilities and love for inventing and fixing things. She created the Telepod which initiates the group’s time travel and repairs Robo, a robot from 2300 AD.

Lucca plays an important role in the game’s story, often using her wits to help the party overcome difficult situations. This includes crafting the Gate Key which allows you to control the Time Gates and travel through time. His creativity and passion for mechanics are one of the many characteristics that set Lucca apart in an incredible cast.
