The Intellivision Amico retro game console with a third delay, here’s when to expect

It seems that many companies are looking to the past to chart a course for the future with gaming consoles. We’ve seen Sony and Nintendo release miniaturized versions of their popular consoles, although the latter has had the most success with the NES Classic and SNES Classic. Other companies like Atari have also thrown their hats in the ring.

Intellivision, another games company with a rich history, announced in October 2018 that it would launch its new Amico game console on October 10, 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the console has been delayed until ‘in April 2021. Then the console has been delayed until fall 2021. Intellivision has now announced that the Amico faces another delay, which will postpone its official launch until the end of 2021.

“Despite our best efforts, and now faced with new and unprecedented international challenges of component supply and logistics beyond our control, we apologize as we are forced to push back the desired launch date once again,” said Intellivision said in an email sent to customers who have pre-ordered the console. “Despite these supply barriers hampering our ability to fill all orders, we are focused and determined to deliver pre-ordered units by the end of the year. It will also give us more time to optimize our operating system for future game development. “

To appease customers who have pre-ordered the console – and who are likely growing angry at the delays – Intellivision will send an email giveaway next week. Unfortunately, the company hasn’t detailed what the “special giveaway” would entail, but we believe it will be store credit for props or games (the games are supposed to cost around $ 8 each). .

The Amico is primarily aimed at families, as all games will be rated for everyone (E10 +). So, parents shouldn’t have to worry about blood and blood, sexual situations or bad language that they need to watch out for. Another plus is that Amico games won’t have DLC attached, which can often be a financial drain for parents.

The Intellivision Amico is currently available for pre-order in Glacier White, Graphite Black, and Vintage Wood Grain for $ 249.99, $ 249.99, and $ 279.99, respectively. Pre-orders can be secured with a deposit of $ 100 directly with Intellivision.
